Our Story

Millar Trost Legal came into being one idol Sunday afternoon in January 2026 when two solicitors suddenly found themselves unemployed. Those solicitors are us, Elizabeth Millar and Michelle Trost, the founding directors of Millar Trost Legal.

The law firm where we both had worked unexpectedly ceased to exist, and the Queensland Law Society “QLS” very helpfully stepped in and gave us the opportunity to open our own legal practice and take our existing clients with us.

We were made offers from a number of brilliant law firms here in Toowoomba, and we paused to acknowledge that it would be a far easier path for us to follow, but we both felt like fate had other plans for us. We recognised that it’s not every day that you are gifted these opportunities, so for better or worse, we chose to forge ahead with opening our own legal practice; the only problem being, quite literally, we had nothing in place and nowhere to go.

It was sink or swim, and we had to make some very rapid-fire decisions. Whilst there were lots of bumps, sleepless nights, and quite a few exasperated “what were we thinking” moments, we did it. We managed to establish and open Millar Trost Legal for business, in a matter of weeks; a feat that would normally take between four to six months, sometimes longer.

So, whilst the establishment of our legal practice was perhaps unconventional, we both had a clear vision of what we wanted to achieve; a practice committed to providing expert, client-centred strategic advice, with genuine human support because we are often assisting good people experiencing some of the worst times of their lives.

We believe therefore that we were forged in fire, and that we bring that same commitment and intensity to our legal work, for the ultimate benefit of our clients.

We wish to acknowledge however, that none of this would have been possible without the generous support and assistance of the QLS, our colleagues, our existing clients, our friends and our families, who all believed in us, even when we had doubts, and for that we are extremely grateful.
